With Hope Gap, the 2023 cinephile cycle concludes

The Cinema Fans Circle announces its latest films. This is “Hope Gap” by British director Williams Nicholson (1948), known for his works Beatnik (2001). He began working as a television director in 1983, and as a writer who wrote several novels, such as: True love trial (2005) and the trilogy Wind on fire (200, 2001, 2002).

In the film, Grace and Edward have been married for thirty-three years. When his son Jimmy arrives home to visit them in Hop Gap, the seaside town where he grew up, Edward tells him he plans to drop Grace off the next day.

The film won awards for Best Film and Best Actor (Josh O’Connor) at the 2020 Sant Jordi Film Festival (Barcelona).

During the 2023 season, the Cinephiles Circle, curated by Marcello Marcolini, presented twenty-eight premieres of high-quality films from Germany, France, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Poland, the United Kingdom, Russia and Tunisia. Works that brought fame to Bahia’s film buffs, an event that set the local cinema screen at a very high level for five years, providing cinematic exposure for auteurs in the major cities of the world.

It is noteworthy that these events were self-financed from entry fees, the unusual cost of coffee, and without any support or sponsorship of any kind. It was implemented with the sole aim of diversifying the local audio-visual offer, and providing high-quality titles that will enrich the culture, i.e.; “Top level.”

The final film of 2023, “Hope Gap,” opens today and re-screens Tuesday the 31st at Visual Cinema, Chiclana 452, at 7:30 p.m.
