Inflation and the rising cost of food have hit many American families hard in recent months, and it’s the main reason many analysts are calling for a new wage increase.
Currently, the minimum hourly wage is over $15 in the United States. However, it is not enough for the lower class workers, especially immigrants and the disadvantaged.
Faced with this dire scenario, several states have decided to require the White House to have the $20 salary range. Specifically, the request was made by states governed by the New Democrats, including New York, California, and Massachusetts. All this in the midst of high and persistent inflation that has devouring the pockets of the majority of Americans, according to reports Las Americas newspaper.
Increase the minimum wage in the United States
The minimum wage in New York City is $15, although there is a fairly high percentage earning only $14.20. The bill would increase the state minimum wage to $21.25 by 2026 and then adjust it every year after that, depending on how inflation subsides.
According to the analysis of the aforementioned mediator, in the state of Massachusetts, it has been proposed to increase the salary every year until it reaches $20 in 2027, compared to the current salary of $15. Meanwhile, California minimum wage employees earn about $15.50 which is why fast food workers are proposed to be increased to 22 per hour.
Although this measure has its inconveniences, according to the National Labor Law Project report, this year 21 states and 41 counties and cities are expected to raise the minimum wage. For example, in Alaska the minimum wage will rise above $10, in Arizona above $13, and in California above $15.50 an hour.
