We have previously talked about WhatsApp developing a new section called Channels, just like Telegram channels. Thanks to channels, people and organizations will be able to share information easily. This can also be used to share or search for information of interest, i.e. users will be able to choose who they want to receive news from and follow broadcasters of their choice directly from WhatsApp.
In the channels, the phone numbers of the users who post, as well as the subscribers to the channel, will be masked and hidden to prevent their identity from being revealed. This functionality is completely optional and users will be able to continue to use the rest of the tools as always; All your messages and calls will be protected by end-to-end encryption.
According to WABetaInfoThe feature is still under development and in the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android 2.23.10.19 available on the Google Play Store, more details about the channels have been discovered. Specifically, 12 different features are planned to be released with the channels, the same ones as shown below Specialized Broker:
-
- user interface: Channels will adopt a full-width messaging interface in the conversation.
- Verification status: Channels can be checked and marked with the green check mark icon. However, the verification request process is still not clear.
- Number of followers: Right below the channel name is an indication of the number of followers.
- Alarm mute button: WhatsApp aims to improve user control over message notifications received from channels. To do this, a shortcut to mute can be accessed within the channel header.
- Identifiers: Channels support identifiers that are displayed in the channel information.
- Number of actual followers: The exact number of people who follow a channel can be found on the channel info screen. This number provides the true representation of a channel’s followers, as opposed to the approximation mentioned above.
- Abbreviations: WhatsApp wants to introduce three new shortcuts to improve the user experience while browsing the channel info screen. These shortcuts allow simple actions like unfollowing, forwarding, and sharing a channel with others.
- Safa channel: The channel description will be displayed within the channel info screen and allows channel creators to provide additional information and context for followers, including the purpose of the channel.
- Silence notifications: An additional button is provided to easily mute the channel.
- vision center: A channel can be set to public, allowing anyone to discover it and view shared content.
- Privacy: Channels provide a safe and private space where the privacy of your information is maintained and protected.
- Complaints: If you encounter any issues on a channel you follow, you have the option to report it to the channel’s moderation team. If the channel violates the Terms of Service, it will be suspended and users will no longer be able to continue or view content on the channel.
