A little over a month ago, we reported that WhatsApp was working on a tool to provide the ability to lock certain chats using a security password or fingerprint, and now we finally have the feature. Do you want to know what this is? To read all the details!
What is and what is the “Lock Chat” button that appears in WhatsApp?
As previously announced In the WhatsApp for Android 2.23.8.2 beta update available on the Google Play Store, the social networking company has been working on a new feature that will allow users to lock specific conversations using their fingerprint or a password (or pin) for security. Finally, this feature has reached the early adopters.
In other words, this “Block Conversations” button is part of a new WhatsApp functionality in the works. The idea is to be able to block access to a chat, be it group or individual, with a security password with a simple action of contact information. In this way, WhatsApp hopes to provide its users with a double layer of security for the conversations they want to protect, keeping their sensitive conversations safe from unauthorized eyes.
In the following screenshots, you can see how WhatsApp has added a “Block Chats” button in the contact information. It will be enough to tap to configure a new security layer, to block chat with fingerprint. An interesting thing is that once you configure blocking in a chat, it will go to the “Blocked Chats” drawer.
It should be noted that the functionality may not appear yet because it is in progress and beta users are the first to get it. However, there is an old tool in WhatsApp with which you can lock the entire app with your fingerprint or PIN. If you want to know how to do that, keep reading!
How to lock WhatsApp with a fingerprint
It is available on both iOS and Android and it is really very simple. Just go to Settings within the WhatsApp app and in the Privacy section you will find the option. Let’s see it step by step:
- Open the app
- In the chat tab, go to the three dots in the upper right to open a file session.
- Now go to the section Privacy And click to see more options.
- Scroll to the end and you will see that the option is for Fingerprint lock.
- Press and activate this function.
- It will ask you to touch the sensor fingerprint from your phone.
- Finally, you can choose to block immediately after one minute or half an hour.
As you can see in the following screenshot, you just need to go to the settings and you can activate the function in the privacy section. Our demo is for Android, it might change slightly for iOS, though in essence it remains the same.
In this other screenshot, you can see the full activation of the fingerprint lock pane. Once you press to activate the function, it will ask you to place your finger on the sensor to verify and it will automatically go to the last step, which is to configure the inactivity time that must pass before it can be blocked. You can also choose whether to show WhatsApp notifications while the fingerprint lock is active.
