Omar Rodríguez Lopez, multi-instrumentalist, and Cedric Bixler Zavala, singer and composer, have joined forces to revive one of the most prominent bands of recent times. The film brings together decades of personal photographs, recorded by Rodriguez Lopez himself, that offer an honest, unfiltered look at two creative minds in constant motion.

Described as “a film that traces the artistic and personal relationship between two artists who created a new era,” it serves as a testament to the lasting impact these musicians have had on the world of alternative rock. The film delves into the personal stories and artistic processes that shaped The Mars Volta and how his time at The Drive-In was nothing more than the beginning of a prolific career.

With six studio albums between 2003 and 2012, the Texas band’s fate took an unexpected turn when Cedric and Omar broke up and the band disbanded. In the years since, they have embarked on new musical adventures, forming the group Antemasque and even bringing the pre-Mars group At-the-Drive-In back to life with a long-awaited album in 2017.
