Speaking Saturday at the plenary session of the 19th Shangri-La Dialogue, Fan Jiang said that following the path of peaceful development is the common desire of mankind, despite the fact that the world is now facing many traditional and non-traditional security challenges. Voice of Vietnam (VOV), based in Singapore, said.
By highlighting “Vietnam is committed to protecting peace with other countries,” the VOV digital portal also emphasized the aspiration expressed by the military commander that all countries and peoples of the world enjoy peace, cooperation and equitable development.
Vietnam will not join any military alliance and no country will be involved in fighting another country. Fan Jiang noted that it does not allow foreign countries to set up military bases or use their territory at the expense of others, stressing that the Southeast Asian country wishes to be everyone’s trusted friend and partner.
For its part, VNA News Agency highlighted Vietnam’s view of building and strengthening the national defense capacity to protect its homeland, safeguard peace and ensure the well-being of the people.
In this sense, he pointed out that, according to the minister, strengthening defense capacity without transparency and a just cause can easily generate suspicion and lead to an arms race that harms trust between countries and increases strategic competition.
He added that such a situation would inevitably consume national resources that should be better spent on promoting social and economic development and addressing non-traditional security threats to bring happiness and prosperity to the people.
Phan Jiang stressed that Vietnam actively and widely participates in international integration and strives to enhance strategic trust with other countries, stressing his country’s commitment not to use or threaten to use force in international relations.
