United Kingdom: Felixstowe Port opens new rail service to Yorkshire

Felixstowe Port of Hutchison Ports, Opened a new operating rail service GB Railfreight It connects the UK’s largest container port with Wakefield in Yorkshire.

The new service is 13 operated by GB Railfreight and 12 daily rail lines to destinations in Yorkshire.

Commenting on the latest addition to the port’s rail services list, Chris Lewis, Executive Director, Felixstowe Port“Increasing the number of rail services available to importers and exporters from the port is one of our main goals. Felixstowe port is the main container gateway for Northern Powerhouse and about 50% of the traffic between Felixstowe and the north moves by rail. The number of services is good for the port, our customers and the environment,” he said.

“With three dedicated rail stations at the port, we are providing more rail services to more inland destinations than any other port in the UK,” the executive added.

The train will initially consist of a mix of wagon types, including two Eco Triples, two Q8s and 11 IKA Twins. Combining a variety of trolleys is important because it allows greater flexibility, and increases the number of boxes that can be moved to better meet consumer demand and make more efficient use of the total capacity.

Other destinations that can be reached by train from Felixstowe Port are Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Tesport, Birmingham, Birch Cubis, Doncaster, East Midlands Gate, Hams Hall, Wakefield, Dayton (Widnes), Rotherham, I-Port Rosington and Cardiff.
