UN Updates on Mass Displacement in Gaza – Juventud Rebelde

The United Nations said on Friday that nearly 60,000 Palestinians have moved west of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, over the past three days, following new Israeli orders.

According to the organization, the Defense Forces issued the third order to evacuate the areas in just two days on Thursday, which includes about 230 sites for displaced persons, more than thirty water, sanitation and hygiene facilities, and five operating health facilities.

To date, 80% of the entire territory of the Strip is under Israeli evacuation orders, according to Prensa Latina.

Forced displacement, coupled with restrictions on humanitarian access, further undermines access to supplies, lack of public order and security, and heightened levels of insecurity and other factors.

The amount of aid that can reach Gaza through functioning border crossings has been cut by more than half since early May, after the Rafah crossing with Egypt was closed, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said on Friday.

For her part, Florencia Soto, Deputy Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, confirmed that as a result, the volume of aid provided to Gaza has decreased by more than half since the beginning of May.

The spokeswoman said during a press conference that the entry of land trucks decreased from a daily average of 169 trucks in April to less than 80 trucks in June and July.

Israeli authorities facilitated only 24 of the 67 planned aid missions to northern Gaza last month; the rest were denied, obstructed or cancelled for security, logistical or operational reasons.

The situation is no different in the southern region, where nearly 100 planned humanitarian missions were facilitated, about half of them by the Israeli authorities.
