UK: Vodafone has deployed Open RAN with Samsung

The operator said in a statement that Samsung’s vRAN solutions demonstrated their network capabilities and outperformed legacy infrastructure in testing.

Vodafone has agreed with Samsung to use its solutions (software, compatible radios, etc.) to deploy Open RAN in the UK. It will install 2,500 sites in Wales and southwest England in a project that will be completed in 2027. This is the same partner that supported the operator in installing Open RAN in Exmouth and Torquay last December.

The operator said in a statement that Samsung’s vRAN solutions demonstrated their network capabilities and outperformed legacy infrastructure in testing.

Andrea Donna, Vodafone UK Network Director, said: “We are excited to begin the end-to-end deployment of Open RAN, working alongside Samsung Networks and the rest of our ecosystem. After rounds of testing and validation, we are ready to embark on this new phase of expansion; we hope to open A new world of possibilities that will change customer experiences.”
