Madrid, December 21 (European Press) –
Ambulance workers in England and Wales will go on strike on Wednesday over wages, amid concerns among hospital officials that they cannot guarantee patient safety.
A day after around 10,000 NHS nurses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland went on strike for the second time in less than a week, ambulance staff today are joining complaints about pay and pressure on the public health system.
According to those in charge of the NHS, this downtime worries hospital chiefs but it confirms that despite everything, a minimum level of emergency services will continue to be provided, with citizens asked to use these services wisely and only in case of urgent vital necessity.
In England, eight of the 10 major ambulance services have reported serious incidents, due to the pressure they are under, and response time is already twice as high as it was two years ago, according to the BBC.
In the same way, irregularities will occur due to a strike by paramedics, administration staff, emergency aides and technicians in the rest of the country.
The government is also urging citizens to take extreme precautions today and avoid unnecessary car travel or contact sports while nearly 800 members of the armed forces are being recruited to end the sanitary strike.
