a Research published by the British Ports Association (BPA) revealed that UK port investments exceeded £1 billion in 2021 Despite the constant epidemiological fluctuations.

This, thanks to projects such as the fourth berth of DP World’s London Gateway, worth $300 million. The investment in modernizing port machinery, ships and functional buildings adds at least another £75m to the total.

Analysis of data submitted to BPA by MDS Transmodal shows that while container ports handled 15% more units in the third quarter of 2021 than in the third quarter of 2020, published capacity was down 15% last year.

Dry bulk volumes in the third quarter of 2021 were 5% higher than pre-pandemic levels in the third quarter of 2019. 2021 volumes could reach 96 million tons, the highest since 2015 if similar patterns follow in the fourth quarter as was previously.

Total liquid volumes in the first three quarters of 2021 decreased by 7%. Demand for petroleum products has remained relatively low and has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels in the third quarter. Warmer than average temperatures have also moderated gas demand.
