Gold futures for February delivery fell 0.26%, or 4.65, to $1,816.75 an ounce. Among other commodities, crude oil futures for February delivery rose 2.02%, or $1.66, to settle at $83.78 a barrel, while Brent crude futures for March delivery rose 1.67%, or 1.41 to $85.88 a barrel.
The GBP/USD pair fell 0.32% to settle at 1.3660, while the EUR/GBP fell 0.05% to hit 0.8350.
The dollar index rose 0.45% to 95.200.
