The United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, announced Saturday that she fears that negotiations for a truce between Russia and… Ukraine Just a “smoke screen” that the Kremlin uses to intensify its attack. In an interview with The Times, Truss said she was “extremely skeptical” about these negotiations and considered that Russia could use them as a “distraction.” “Their invasion will not go as planned. We don’t see any major withdrawal of Russian forces or any serious proposals on the table,” he said.
“The Russians have lied and continue to lie. I fear the negotiations are just another attempt to divert attention and create a smokescreen,” he added.
British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss estimated that if “a country is serious about negotiations, it is not blindly bombing civilians that day”.
Thus Truss responded to the UK Ministry of Defense’s latest report on the situation in Ukraine published on Saturday in which it stated that “the Kremlin has not yet achieved its initial objectives” and “has been forced to change its tactics.”
He predicted that this “likely means a blind use of military force, which will lead to increased civilian casualties, the destruction of Ukrainian infrastructure, and an exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis.”
Ukrainians and Russians have held several meetings since February 24, the day the Russian invasion began. Negotiations this week took place by video link.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Russia on Saturday to agree to hold a meeting to discuss peace.
