At about 8:30 a.m. this Thursday, a group of medical surgical students at the University of Guanajuato (UG) College of Medicine demonstrated on 20 de Enero Street.
The said demonstration aims to ask the President of the Public University, Luis Felipe Guerrero Agrippino, today, as planned, to choose places to start his social professional service digitally for the prevention of COVID-19 infection.
Through a document they sent to Página Central, the students questioned the seriousness of the University of Guanajuato for not ensuring their safety.
They commented on this by saying, “We learned through the official media that the official elections for positions will take place on January 20, 2022, and less than 10 hours later, they informed us that the elections had been cancelled.”
Previously, they had already changed the dynamics of the elections by citing groups of 10 people to prevent cases of coronavirus, but at night about 10 people were informed of the cancellation of the elections.
Likewise, they regretted that there were no official channels to communicate this decision and to be able to rectify this situation in the best way, as they were notified of this news via the WhatsApp account of the current trainees.
The new date of the pick they are referring to is next January 28, as of February 1, they should already be at their healthcare point.
They refuse to be sent to unsafe areas
Another complaint made by incoming interns is that this department of UG will be the last to choose internship points, because medical-surgical interns from private education institutions have already chosen their place of residence.
They said, “The list of jobs before us is geographically remote, known to be dangerous by colleagues living nearby and by known situations that have threatened the lives and safety of former interns.”
They even indicated that there are spaces where there is no possibility to spend the night, so they will have to allocate their economic resources to rent a place.
For this reason, they demanded that the academic authorities provide them with a viable solution as soon as possible.
