UEFA has decided to appoint the tournament organizer. Euro 2028 to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. next to, Italy and Turkey have been selected to host the 2032 tournament. The announcement was made at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland. The selection comes after Turkey withdrew its bid to host the 2028 tournament, leaving England, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Scotland and Wales as the only contenders to host Europe’s premier football event.
UEFA EURO 2028 will be held in 10 stadiums, including iconic venues such as Wembley in London, Hampden Park in Glasgow, the Principality Stadium in Cardiff and the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. The UK and Ireland being awarded the tournament is a major achievement after several countries expressed interest in hosting it in previous years.
In 2016, Denmark considered cooperation with Sweden, Norway and Finland, but ultimately did not submit a joint project. Similarly, the idea of a joint bid between Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Serbia was quickly dropped. In 2018, Spain and Portugal expressed their intention to organize the 2030 European Championship or World Cup, although they eventually focused their efforts on the World Cup and had a successful bid with Morocco, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. Last year, Russia also expressed interest, but UEFA deemed this unfeasible for 2028 and 2032 due to the situation in Ukraine.
Turkey was the main competitor to the British-Irish bid. Turkey initially expressed interest in hosting both tournaments, but its decision to withdraw from 2028 and join Italy in 2032 paved the way for UEFA’s final decision.
The next edition of the European Championship is scheduled to be held in Germany next year, between June 14 and July 14. European teams are competing to qualify, including Spain, which has important matches this week against Scotland at home and Norway away. @Mundiario
