Tri Femenil Falls to Minimum Against USA | XEU Sports

The United States beat Mexico 1-0 on Saturday with a second-half goal from Sophia Smith in a friendly ahead of the Olympics.

The North Americans outscored Mexico by a wide margin in the match at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, but they squandered several chances.

The only goal came in the 64th minute when Portland Thorns forward Smith, assisted by Mallory Swanson, found space between Mexican defenders and beat Estefany Barreras with a shot into the top corner.

The United States will play Costa Rica in Washington on Tuesday in their final warm-up match before traveling to France for the Olympics.

The US team is in the same group as Germany, New Zealand and Zambia, the country with which it will play its first match on July 25 in Nice.

The Olympics are a test for a new generation after Megan Rapinoe withdrew and Alex Morgan was not called up, captains of a glorious team that led the United States to two World Cup titles.

After winning the World Cup in 2015 and 2019, the United States was eliminated by Sweden in the round of 16 in the last edition in 2023.
