This may be the reason for the reinforcements against the spread of the virus

Mexico City, 11 July 2022.

cScientists at Imperial College London conducted a study using the omicron variable to find out why the infection returned.

The research examined the immune response of 731 healthcare workers in the UK, and found that those who had already gone through coronavirus disease did not, in fact, have a natural immune booster.

The study, published in the journal Science, demonstrated that people who took the three doses of the vaccine and who actually contracted Covid during the first wave, show no improvement in their immune response after passing the virus with the omicron variant. Rosemary Boyton, an immunologist and lead author of the study said.

“Omicron infection does not provide a strong boost to immunity against future re-infection of the same species. He noted that SARS-CoV-2 infection affects the ability to enhance immunity against reinfection with SARS-CoV-2 through a process known as immune imprinting, and may apply This is on Omicron’s sub-variables, including BA.4 and BA.5.

That is, those who were previously infected with Covid-19 do not get any additional immune protection against another infection.

The fact that the accumulation of immunity – the immune fingerprint – can vary greatly depending on contact with the virus has not been studied before.

Immunologist Professor Danny Altman, one of the study’s authors, told The Guardian:

“Contrary to the myth that we enter into a relaxed evolutionary relationship with the virus, we seem to be stuck on a horror movie journey.”

He stated that Omicron has proven to be far from a simple natural booster for vaccine immunity, pointing to more than 619,000 long-term Covid cases caused by the Omicron wave in the UK during this year, according to data from ONS.

Scientists said the situation is baffling and bleak as this mysterious and persistent disease finds a way to continue wreaking havoc in a population that is often vaccinated with a milder form.

Finally, the results of this research destroy the theory of herd immunity, in which the hope of ending the COVID-19 pandemic has been held.
