They thank the United Kingdom for its support to Colombia in environmental matters

October 7, 2021, 10:31 pmBOGOTA, Oct 7 (Prinsa Latina) The President of Colombia, Ivan Duque, today received the United Kingdom’s Environment Minister, Zach Goldsmith, who thanked him for his support of the energy transition and clean mobility.

Duque also said he understands and appreciates Goldsmith’s offer to support the UK in the front line fight against the killings of environmental leaders in this South American country.

Colombia once again ranked first in the world for the number of environmental leaders killed this year, according to data from the annual report of the British NGO Global Witness.

The President indicated that they discussed the support that the European country wants to provide to the country in the Clean Mobility Strategy and the goal of planting 180 million trees by August 2022.

Duque confirmed that we had a fruitful meeting with the UK Minister for the Environment and Pacific, Zach Goldsmith, to further strengthen our bilateral environmental relationship and the Alliance for Sustainable Growth.

During his stay in Colombia, the British minister met the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, with whom he discussed environmental issues, toured the heritage district of La Candelaria and was at the Humboldt Institute.

He also stated that he will receive Duque at the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP26, which will be held from 31st of this month to 12th of November in Glasgow, Scotland.
