Biogénesis Bagó’s Director of Technical Services, Gustavo Lagiogia, spoke with the “Valor agro” program and explained that this first vaccination period takes place in the summer, so “the main factor is taking care of the cold chain”.
He also explained that freezing or heating vaccines should be avoided, as “frozen or hot vaccines should be discarded because they lose stability, and lose the ability to protect the flock applied to them.”

With regard to the techniques that must be applied at the time of vaccination, he indicated that vaccinations must be applied immediately, and as soon as the product is removed from the freezer or refrigerator, needles and vials must not be exposed to the sun.
Other advice given by the specialist concerned the verification that should be made on the operation of the refrigerators using thermometers with a record of the maximum and minimum temperatures, and “that there is someone responsible for checking and resetting the thermometer to 0 every day.”
He added that when experts go into the field, it is essential that they carry the vaccines in coolers with lots of ice, too much, leaving them in the shade and making sure they do not reach room temperature.
All of these guidelines relate to the quality of the final product sold abroad and consumed domestically, so it’s important to take them into account even when they seem like minor details, according to the technician.
