They reiterate the need to increase humanitarian assistance to Syria

The guarantor states of the so-called Astana formula, in their meeting in this city, expressed their deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Syria and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and rejected all unilateral sanctions that violate international law.

According to the joint statement issued at the conclusion of the meeting that started the day before, Moscow, Tehran and Ankara urged the international community, the United Nations and its humanitarian organizations, to increase aid to that Arab nation.

They talked about implementing early recovery and resilience building projects, including rebuilding basic infrastructure.

The participants in the meeting stressed the importance of facilitating the return of refugees and internally displaced persons to their places of residence in Syria, as well as ensuring the right of return and receiving support.

Meanwhile, they agreed to establish relief mechanisms to improve humanitarian conditions in the Idlib demilitarized zone.

In the dialogue between the Syrian government and the armed opposition, Russia, Iran and Turkey called for a complete cessation of hostilities through the full implementation of all relevant agreements.

With regard to the conflict in the northeast of the country, the two sides agreed that lasting security and stability in that region can only be achieved if the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria is preserved.

In this regard, the guarantors of the ceasefire warned against the intensification of attacks by separatist groups east of the Euphrates River.

They also condemned and called for an end to the Israeli attacks that violate international law and the sovereignty of Syria and neighboring countries and threaten the stability and security of the region.

He stressed that “Israel’s use of civilian aircraft to cover the aggression on Syrian territory is a flagrant violation of international norms and endangers the lives of civilians.”
