On the occasion of the commemoration of the 128th anniversary of the birth of the hero, the diplomat said that the month of May marks a date of dignity.
General Sandino decided to go to arms to expel the occupier from our lands. He pointed out that as anti-imperialists, we do not hate people, but rather we hate a system because we call for a more just system, in which peoples’ sovereignty, freedom and self-determination are respected.
Nicaragua will continue to fight that fight despite the fact that the big media organizations are selling another image and another reality for our country. “We continue to work steadily to achieve peace and consolidate the peace we already achieved after the coup attempt in 2018,” he said.
Zhang noted that the sovereignty of any people is not in dispute and, Sandino said, is defended with arms in hand.
Meanwhile, the Acting Chargé d’Affaires of Cuba in El Salvador, Ariel Hernández, delivered the closing remarks in honor of the Nicaraguan hero, highlighting the legitimacy of his anti-imperialist ideology, that is, the idea of an “extraordinary man and symbol of true Latin America”.
He cited the Guatemalan thinker Miguel Ángel Asturias when he said, “They talk in squares, in universities, everywhere, about that general from America, whose name is Augusto César Sandino… They used him against the silence of American unity, inviting new voices in. The echo of the youth of the Vigilance resounds in Watchtowers, because the Sandino fight continues.”
Hernandez detailed the subsequent confrontation of the so-called General of Free Men against the occupation and the aggression of the United States against his people.
He assured that his ideas will not be forgotten, as they inspire generations of Latin Americans and, mainly, Nicaraguans to do their work for social justice and independence.
The activity organized by the El Salvador Solidarity Movement with Nicaragua was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of universities and El Salvador in solidarity with the Nicaraguan cause.
