The Israeli army says it has regained control of part of the separation wall that Hamas fighters were able to penetrate, and is planting landmines in the area. On Monday, an Israeli airstrike hit the Rafah border crossing in southern Gaza, temporarily closing the only link between the Palestinian enclave and Egypt. The border crossing was reportedly attacked again on Tuesday, wounding two people and creating a crater impeding the flow of people and supplies across the border. This comes after Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant pledged to completely isolate the Gaza Strip and its two million residents from the outside world.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said he was “deeply shocked” by the Israeli blockade on Gaza. The chief human rights officer in United nations “The imposition of a blockade that endangers the lives of civilians by depriving them of property essential to their survival is prohibited under international humanitarian law,” he wrote in response.
