The US President visits the site of the collapse in Miami – Prinsa Latina

The president met survivors of the tragedy and relatives of the victims, although some decided not to attend the meeting and criticized the president’s attendance as it could hinder the work of the rescuers, according to CNN television.

During his stay in Miami, the president spoke with local authorities and some lifeguards whom he thanked for their work in this scenario.

As directed by Biden, the Federal Emergency Management Agency will provide $20.5 million to the state of Florida for operations at the site of the collapse.

The search for bodies was halted this Thursday for several hours for security reasons and resumed in the afternoon, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniela Levine Cava said, who said that in the future it is planned to demolish the rest of the property.

For reasons yet to be determined, the northeastern wing of the Champlain Towers building opened in 1981 and with a total of 136 apartments, collapsed in seconds at dawn on Thursday, June 24, when its residents slept.

The first indications point to some failures in the lower sections of the building, perhaps in its foundations, columns or underground car parks, according to experts quoted in the local media.
