The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has ordered a halt to some migrant deportations for the next 100 days in order to review the country’s immigration policies.
Joe Biden appointed David Pecowski as Acting Secretary of Homeland Security, who signed the document confirming this measure, which is intended to “have a fair and effective immigration law, focused on national security.”

The statement also refers to the fact that this pause will make it possible to ensure that resources are used appropriately in the most important challenges facing the country, such as the “Southwest Frontier”.
The document signed yesterday by Pekoske specifies that the stand, which will begin today, does not apply to those who were not in the United States prior to November of last year or if the Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement decides to expel someone.
The measure is part of the first executive orders that Biden took hours after taking office, in addition to other orders such as ending construction of the border wall between Mexico and the United States.
