The United States promotes women’s soccer in Colombia

Women’s football in Colombia has made great progress in recent years, with 2022 being one of the most remarkable in history thanks to the performances of the various national teams in the World Cup and Copa America finals.. Now, one of the greatest women’s soccer powers in the world will help promote the sport in Colombia.

The US Embassy in the country will implement several women’s soccer clinics to spearhead the operations that allow the growth of the sport. Bogota, MedellĂ­n and Quibdo were chosen to nurture the talents of women.

The first team with which they developed one of these clinics was the millionaires team, in Bogota. Christina Murillo, head coach of the MLS Chicago Fire, and Jennifer Ruiz Williams, head coach of the University of Nevada, were responsible for directing the workouts with the women’s team on the “Ambassador” team.

“It was an amazing experience. We’ve been playing together since 2015, so it’s great to be back together alongside women who are so passionate about the game. There’s so much creativity and so much potential,” said Murillo.

Football skills development

The training session was held at the headquarters of the Colombian Football Federation, the Space has perfected some of the Colombians’ skills with the American pros.

“It all adds up to everything and everything is positive. It’s no secret that soccer in the United States is very developed,” said Millonarios player Lena Gomez.

After this clinic in Bogota, the US Embassy in Colombia will continue to lead training activities in different cities of the national territory.

Francisco Palmieri, US Ambassador to Colombia, said, “The power of Colombian women’s football is enormous, and I think the world will realize in Australia (Women’s World Cup) that the strength of South American football is here.”
