The United Kingdom invites Juan Carlos I to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II

The United Kingdom has sent out invitations for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, which will take place next Monday, the 19th at Westminster Abbey in London. In the case of Spain, they were addressed to Kings Felipe VI and Letizia and at the same time Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia were invited. The royal house confirmed the attendance of the current kings and reported that it was waiting for the honorary king and Queen Sofia to confirm their “personal decision” to attend.

Four months ago, King Juan Carlos returned to Spain after 655 days in Abu Dhabi, where he fled amid judicial investigations. Last May, he took part in a weekend regatta in Sanxenxo and later met his son, Felipe VI, in Madrid.

In addition to current heads of state and former heads of state of Spain, the UK has also sent invitations to the funeral to the delegations of Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands. The Crown Prince of Denmark is also invited.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away last Thursday after seven decades on the throne. And two days later, on Saturday, his son, Prince Charles, was proclaimed king. On this Monday, he delivered his first speech to British Parliamentarians, in which he said he would rule “with carelessness” and with respect for “constitutional principles”.

The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II is located this Monday in Edinburgh, where a chapel has been set ablaze for 24 hours in her cathedral. Tomorrow, Tuesday afternoon, the remains will be flown to the British capital on an RAF plane.
