London, March 14 (EFE). The UK unemployment rate remained at 3.7% between November 2022 and January 2023, the same as in the previous quarter, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported on Tuesday.

According to that authority, the employment rate increased during the period to 75.7%, compared to 75.6% in the previous period, while the level of inactivity reached 21.3%, compared to 21.4% in the previous period.

ONS’s director of economic statistics, Darren Morgan, noted on Tuesday that there had been an uptick in employment, particularly among part-time workers.

He added: “Detailed figures from our business surveys show record numbers for jobs across many sectors, including law and accounting firms, healthcare, bars and restaurants. In addition, the number of people out of work and looking for work has decreased overall.”

According to the manager, the real wages of workers continue to fall due to the rising cost of living.

According to the latest official figures, the UK’s year-on-year inflation rate was 10.1% in January, compared to 10.5% in December, the third consecutive month of decline. EFE
