Jakarta (VNA) – The UK delegation to ASEAN held a symposium in Jakarta, Indonesia, to discuss the economic integration program between the group and the United Kingdom.

Speaking at the event the previous day, the UK’s Ambassador to ASEAN, Sarah Tiffin, said the UK had contributed more than £19 million ($23.62 million) to support improving the long-term business environment in seven ASEAN member states. The program falls within a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening the new dialogue partnership between the two parties.

He said that this year marks the strengthening of the implementation of the UK Dialogue Partnership, with a particular focus on the establishment of the £25 million ASEAN-UK Economic Integration Programme.

It will be implemented over the next four years in the ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and East Timor, and aims to reduce poverty in the region, especially supporting the economic empowerment of women and small businesses.

Participants at the event discussed several topics, including the impact of the digital economy, trade barriers, access to financial resources, and empowering women to participate more in the economy./.
