The UK notes “severe attrition” among senior officials in the Russian military

LONDON, September 23 (Europa Press) – British intelligence services indicated on Saturday that “severe attrition” was occurring among senior officials in Russia’s armed forces as the invasion of Ukraine progressed.

Consequently, they warned that there was a high “degree of turnover” in these positions, and noted that since the beginning of the invasion in February 2022, “three commanders from one of the main regiments had resigned or been killed.”

British intelligence stressed in a brief statement issued by the Ministry of Defense that “this highlights the severe erosion suffered by the Russian army, which is widespread even among the relatively senior ranks.”

British officials indicated on Friday that both Russia and Ukraine had recently witnessed “attacks of unusual intensity” in areas far from the front line, in an attempt by both countries to “strike the strategic depth of the opponent.”

For its part, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a new battery of missiles against targets in the Crimean Peninsula, causing damage to the headquarters of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
