In this work, taken from the union AMYTS, he regrets that if he does nothing to solve the shortage of doctors in primary care, he will go to medicine without doctors.
The health system in Spain has a very serious problem of lack of doctors, especially at the first levels of care: there is a shortage of doctors to work in primary care consultations, in both family medicine and pediatrics; There is a shortage of doctors willing to work in the emergency department, both in the hospital and out of the hospital.
The Department of Health is responsible for the emerging problem, and is incapable of finding solutions to this terrible situation of physician shortage: it dedicates itself to laying patches that are barely able to support this building with its rotten foundations.
It has been many years since AMYTS began denouncing the shortage of professionals. We used to say: “Without pediatricians, there is no pediatrics!” Until then, they looked the other way, without realizing that a shortage of pediatricians in primary care would have repercussions on the health of our children. Children do not vote. What pediatricians should do will be done by family physicians, and they are many.
Pediatrics was the first step in the collapse of primary care. Now there are no family doctors either. Now we say: “Without doctors, there is no medicine!”. And again, the officials look the other way and decide what doctors do, nurses can do …
Let’s go to medicine without doctors. We already have mobile ICUs without doctors, and consultations in health centers without doctors…
There is no medicine without doctors. The problem is so serious that an immediate change of course is needed. Or suppose we will lose what we had.
In order to overcome this, the participation of all responsible actors is essential:
- From here I appeal to all medical professionals who work at a certain level of health, and I ask you: What are you willing to do? Are you willing to let the system collapse? Are you willing to make any sacrifices to try to save our sanity?
- I also address the citizens: What are you willing to put up with? Are you ready to take on medicine without doctors? Is it the same for you who attends to you? Do you think you can do something, or is it someone else’s responsibility?
- I also address politicians and managers (although the politicization of the administration has made it almost impossible to distinguish one from the other): you are responsible for the solution; The lack of correct answers and solutions causes the system to collapse… Will you also go to a health system without doctors, or do you have other ways to receive quality care?
Politicians have not abandoned doctors. They have another health system, but nevertheless they would like citizens to do it …
What are we ready to do? Just to cry and complain about what we miss?
