The Order of the Universidad de Oriente is awarded to Doctors of Sciences

The Universidad de Oriente (UO) awarded on Saturday for the first time the UO Medal to 415 professors with a degree of Doctors of Sciences, in the context of the celebrations for the Day of the Sector on January 15th.

The award was presented by Diana Siddall, Dean of the Graduate School, and Martha Despaigny, Sub-Regional Delegate of the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment (SITMA).

For their contribution to the economic and social development of the country, the Center for Medical Biophysics, the National Center for Applied Electromagnetics, UO Editions and the Center for Industrial Biotechnology have received the award.

Sandra Cisneros, Professor at UO, expressed the connection between academics in regional and sectoral programs related to economics, legal and social sciences, food production, and innovation.

He highlighted his participation in isolation centers and investigations to counter Covid-19 in the province of Santiago de Cuba.

Cisneros highlighted the doctors’ work tutoring undergraduate and graduate theses, working with student adjuncts and preparing study plans.

Elsis MarĂ­a Lopez, Senior Vice-Chancellor of Alma Mater Oriental University, has published more than 400 scholarly articles in prestigious national and international journals and developed 100 projects.

He reaffirmed the commitment of university professors to strengthening the relationship between the academy, the company and society, while mastering comprehensive training and professional improvement in the country, in order to bring scientific activity into line with the present time.

After 75 years of its foundation, Universidad de Oriente has validated its status as a scientific and conscientious entity, having received nine Citma regional awards linked to studies on environmental protection, health technologies and agriculture.
