Guatemala City, July 15 (Prensa Latina) Guatemala has recorded 492 positive cases of Covid-19 in the last hours and the total for the two weeks to today is 6,116, a marked upward trend.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, the number of infected people in the country in the two weeks of April and May remained between 1,500 and 1,900, while in the period ending on June 8 there were already 2,590.

By the end of June 23, the cases had reached 4,433, and during the two weeks until the seventh of this month, they had reached 5,157, the Disease Alert Committee revealed.

This public information confirms an increase in orange municipalities, compared to the previous 15 days, which also reflects the rise in the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19.

Since March 13, 2020, when authorities announced the first positive patient here amid the global emergency, the number of infections reflects the 1,266,625 cases and 20,217 deaths in Guatemala.

The Health Portfolio renewed its call for residents to continue prevention measures, such as washing hands with soap and water, physical distancing and the use of masks.

And the head of the sector, Francisco Coma, warned months ago of the possibility of an increase in cases, but he ruled out that this would be a matter of concern, because, according to him, they are mild.

Experts note that the XBB1.1.5 variant of Micron, which is prevalent in the territory of Central America and a large part of the world, still deserves attention.
