NetherRealm Studios has released a new teaser for the next installment of Mortal Kombat, which indicates that it could be a reboot.
Earlier this month, the first teaser for the saga’s 30th anniversary was posted, where it’s seen inside an hourglass with falling pellets, zooming in on the final image before it explodes.
In the new hand it is seen how one of the hands of the clock advances towards twelve, but before doing so it jumps straight towards one. This has generated quite a few comments among the community, which had already been known so far as Mortal Kombat 12 would reboot the universe of the franchise.
Which would make sense on a plot level. We won’t get into the details to avoid spoilers, but if you’ve played Mortal Kombat 11 and finished its story mode, you’ll know what we mean.
Mortal Kombat 11 was published four years ago, continuing a plot line that began in Mortal Kombat 9. A few months ago, the head of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav mistakenly stated that the new installment would arrive in the coming months, and an official announcement is expected soon.
Meanwhile, the film production company continues work on Mortal Kombat 2, a sequel to the 2011 film directed by Simon McQuoid, in which actor Karl Urban (The Boys, Dredd) was rumored to play the character Johnny Cage.
