Experts and representatives of the G20 countries at the meeting of development ministers analyzed the design of collective actions to achieve compliance with the Millennium Development Goals.
India’s foreign minister, Subrahmanyam Jaisankar, is chairing the meeting, which will end on June 13 with a series of proposals that will contribute to the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development Goals to be held next September.
With a special video address by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the meeting, which is being held in the city of Varanasi, kicked off with the participation of more than 200 delegates representing G20 member countries and international organisations.
The meeting includes sessions on Pluralism: Collective Actions to Accelerate Progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and Green Development: The LiFE (Lifestyle for the Environment) Approach, sources from the organizing committee indicated.
As part of the event, India organized cultural programmes, exhibitions and excursions for the delegates to immerse themselves in the culture and traditions of Varanasi, one of the oldest cities in the world.
