The Indian economy grew by 4.4% in the third quarter of the fiscal year

New Delhi, Feb. 28 (EFE). The Indian economy grew by 4.4% in the third fiscal quarter (October-December), showing a slight slowdown after closing the first and second quarters with data of 13.5% and 6.3%, respectively.

This data also indicates a slowdown in growth compared to 5.2% in the same period of the previous year (2021-2022), as published this Tuesday in a statement issued by the Central Statistical Office (CSO) of India.

Likewise, the Indian government maintained its growth forecast at 7% for this fiscal year, driven by private consumption and investment, compared to 9.1% in the 2021-2022 fiscal year, according to the agency.

While the forecast for the period 2023-2024 estimates a growth of 6.4 percent, with a greater acceleration in the first quarter: 7.8 percent, followed by the second quarter with a rate of 6.2 percent.

Forecasts for the last two quarters of the year are 6.0 and 5.8 percent, respectively.

India has positioned itself in 2022 as the fifth largest economy according to forecasts by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), displacing the United Kingdom. Only the United States, China, Japan and Germany beat the South Asian country. EFE
