The Front in Guatemala requests an extension of the closure of the electoral process

Upon assuming her position last Thursday as President of the Supreme Court until January 2025, Judge Blanca Alfaro confirmed that the plenary session will work within three days to resolve all pending requests.

Among these, the expansion of the electoral process stands out, which – according to analysts – would sustain the defense of democracy that indigenous peoples and social organizations have been fighting in the streets for 27 consecutive days.

Before the protests, political parties and other sectors of civil society submitted the same request to the Supreme Electoral Court as one way to protect the electoral process and the popular will.

Two days ago, the organizations that make up the Reform Alliance joined in publicly calling for the extension of the electoral period until January 15, 2024.
