SEOUL, May 14 (Yonhap) — South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jinasked the countries of Central and South America to support their country’s candidacy to host World Expo 2030 In the southeastern city of Busan, on the sidelines of a multinational meeting in Guatemala, his office said Saturday.
Park met with 12 high-ranking officials from 11 countries, including Guatemalan President Alejandro Eduardo Giamatti Falla, Belizean Prime Minister Juan Antonio Briceño, and Honduran Vice President Doris Alejandrina Gutierrez while in town. From Antigua Guatemala, to attend the 28th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).
The minister stressed that the Busan World Expo will provide important opportunities to enhance practical cooperation with Central and South American countries in the fields of climate change, marine and other areas, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He also said that these countries are South Korea’s important partners in cooperation as the Yoon Suk Yul government seeks to take on the role of a “global core country” to fulfill its international responsibilities, according to the ministry.
In addition, he called for those countries’ cooperation in South Korea’s efforts to join the UN Security Council, as a non-permanent member, for the 2024-25 term.
