This important meeting brought together more than 30 deans of faculties of humanities, social sciences and related sciences from all over the country with the aim of discussing the place of social sciences in the science, technology and innovation ecosystem.
The Faculty of Cultural Heritage Studies of the House of Our Studies was responsible for welcoming members of the Colombian Association of Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences to its General Assembly.
“From the action plan proposed by the Dean’s Office, one of the strategic axes is the faculty’s relationship with academic fields, and in this sense, we decided to apply to Externado to host the meeting because our programs are unique in Colombia,” noted José Luis Socarras, Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Heritage Studies, “allies that do not unite.” Not only areas of knowledge, but they also need a union position regarding the university's projection in order to remain a leader in this field.
The main aim of the event, which took place between Thursday 29 February and Friday 1 March, was to become a space to promote the recognition and promotion of the humanities and social sciences, through integration, communication among its members and dissemination. Academic production, and government project management to promote and promote the dignity of professionals in these areas of knowledge.
“Externado has made history in the country for many years, and I believe this gives it an important representation in higher education issues to have our headquarters and this allows us to be a neighborly and friendly university,” said José Eduardo Lozano Jiménez. , President of the Association.
During the first day, the Regular Assembly was held, where the deans present shared some thoughts on the progress the Society has made in the past two years and the roadmap they can follow to further strengthen it as one of the leading specialties at the national level. And the regional level.
The second day began with a discussion session that included prominent figures, including Andrea Franco from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation; Dr. Tito Cressin, former Minister of CTel and Dr. Hernando Bonilla, Dean of the Nariño University and President of the Colombian Association of Faculties of Arts. During the conversation, the discussion revolved around the role of the humanities and social sciences in producing knowledge in the country, and the evaluation of this scientific production within the framework of national measurement systems was also discussed.
During his presentation, Krisian explained, “Social sciences play an important role in solving humanity's problems and are multidisciplinary. They are not limited to physics or chemistry, and for this reason it is important to highlight the role of this discipline in the country.”
For his part, Bonilla presented to those present the classification system developed by Mencencias for housing research, and Franco completed it by presenting the general policy that seeks to collect information and data for researchers, approved by Mencencias.
