As part of the publishing activities carried out by the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosi (UASLP), the Faculty of Chemical Sciences keeps an open call for elementary and middle schools to be visited on the so-called “Chemistry Route: Sciences Within Your District”. Access”, which seeks to bring knowledge and work done to students from hard-to-reach communities.
Dr. Alma Gabriela Palestino Escobedo, director of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences, indicated in an interview that the idea of visiting communities to bring science to them arose a few months ago after visiting a school in which teachers were told that for that, it was difficult for teachers and parents to take their children to the capital of San Luis Potosi to bring them closer to events such as Science Summer and others.
Then, he began designing a plan that eventually became The Chemistry Way: Science at Your Fingertips, in which teachers, researchers, and graduate students visit community schools on Saturdays to conduct experiments and student presentations.
The places visited, though they are outskirts, are hard to reach, therefore, boys and girls are supposed to get to know the importance of chemistry and its interrelationship with our daily life.
Through simple but visual experiments, boys and girls are often fascinated by how fun science can be.
This discovery is complemented by presentations in simple language that minors can understand.
So far, seven secondary schools and two primary schools have been registered to be visited in January, February and part of March, Dr Palestino said, however, the call for schools to request a Chemistry Way visit remains open.
The school’s registration form can be found on the college’s website
https://cienciasquimicas.uaslp.mx, or email [email protected], from teacher Aidé Cruces, Head of Extracurricular Affairs.
It should be noted that academic technicians, classroom professors, research professors, undergraduate and graduate students attached to the Faculty of Chemical Sciences participate in the visits, and they all recorded a lively cooperation with this project that brings together young scientists. tomorrow.
