The beach at St. George Island State Park, Florida, has been voted the best in the United States. This annual ranking was created, for more than three decades, by scientist Stephen Leatherman, better known as Dr. Peach. CBS News It indicates that said beach is on the coast facing the Gulf of Mexico. It offers nine miles of pristine sand, as well as nature trails perfect for walking or biking. As if that weren’t enough, the area has fishing and boating spots. The area is ideal for trekking and camping.
What makes this beach so special? The honorable place on the 2023 list was well deserved for being an exotic place for sun and sand. In addition, it is an ideal platform for observing the night sky since there is very little pollution in that area. Dr. Beach asserts that this beach has “some of the best sand in the world. Its waters are absolutely pure and clean, without any source of pollution.”
50 criteria for evaluating beaches
The eminent scientist has been making these selections since 1991. To do so, he takes into account 50 criteria such as the size of the beaches, the softness of the sand, and the temperature of the water. Also, analyze the color and wildlife, among other factors.
In second place in this year’s ranking is Duke Kahanamoku Beach, on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. It is located at the western end of the famous Waikiki Beach.
Other beaches such as Wailea Beach on Maui and Poipu Beach on Kauai, Hawaii, rank in the top ten. And in the same prime location is the beach at Isla Caladesi State Park in the Dunedin/Clearwater area. The rest of the five beaches are in New York, North Carolina, California, South Carolina, and Massachusetts.
