As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix and UCP will develop the new mod, with O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski – the showrunner behind the Nickelodeon revival Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Although it doesn’t have a serial order yet, Science SARU will be handling the animation, with company director Abel Gongora.
Oni Press published six volumes of the Scott Pilgrim series between 2004 and 2010, and Edgar Wright adapted the works into a film called Scott Pilgrim Against the World.
Released in 2010, the film tells the story of a slacker in love (played by Michael Cera), who is forced to battle his new girlfriend Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) seven evil husbands, imagined as a video game-inspired hit.
In 2020, Wright raised a possible Scott Pilgrim animation project, telling Entertainment Weekly, “There are some plans – and nothing official yet – but there are some plans to bring the material back in animated form.”
Wright and his producing partner Nera Park will receive executive producer credits on the new anime series, along with Michael Bacall, with whom he wrote the script.
To celebrate the film’s 10th anniversary, on August 13, 2020, a commemorative box for the film’s soundtrack was released on vinyl. “Seven Evil Exes” Official Edition is a limited edition 4xLP expanded box featuring Scott Pilgrim’s score and score against the world.
In July 2020, the film’s crew met through Zoom at a virtual gathering hosted by Wright to celebrate the film’s anniversary and raise funds for the non-profit organization Water for People.
Last year, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is coming to UK cinemas on a limited run as part of the ongoing anniversary celebrations.
