Quito, July 6 (Prensa Latina) Music by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador flooded the Church of Man in this capital city today to honor its author, painter Oswaldo Guayasamín, on the 104th anniversary of his birth.
Under the direction of teacher Lorena Suarez, the musicians delighted the audience in attendance with national and foreign themes in a tribute to one of Ecuador’s greatest artists.
The ceremony, held alongside Guayasamín’s works and the lit torch “For He Will Always Return”, was symbolic that shook hundreds of attendees.
A special moment of the night was solo singer Alejandra Cabanella’s interpretation of the pieces Pinta Pintor and Guayasamín se llama, dedicated to the artist.
The son of the Ibero-American painter, Pablo Guayasamín, told Prensa Latina that his father loved to celebrate his birthday surrounded by friends and music, so this concert was an excellent gift.
The Director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Office in Quito, Julio Carranza, highlighted the artistic and human legacy of Guayasamín, who, with his brushes, invited us to reflect on inequality and human justice.
Carranza noted that he left an indelible mark on the art world at the international level, as his works were exhibited in various places around the world, such as the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, or Barajas Airport in Spain.
He also highlighted the role of the Guayasamín Foundation in preserving and promoting the work of masters, an essential task for new generations.
On July 6, 1919, the painter was born who brought his indigenous and mestizo art from Ecuador to the lofty places of world culture and immortal figures such as the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, with whom he was united by a deep friendship. .
