Surprise! Panama beats USA | XEU Sports

Panama pulled off the first major upset of the Copa America in the United States on Thursday, beating hosts Argentina 2-1 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to add their first three points and inject adrenaline into the group.

The match, which was held on the second day of Group Three, witnessed two expulsions, one for each team, American Timothy Weah, who received a red card in the 18th minute for punching Roderick Miller in the head without the ball being in dispute.

At the end of the match, Panamanian Adalberto Carrasquilla was sent off for assaulting Christian Pulisic.

Despite playing with ten men, the United States took the lead in the 22nd minute with a shot from Folarin Balogun, her second so far in the tournament, which went in after hitting Orlando Mosquera’s far post.

Panama responded through Cesar Blackman in the 26th minute with a powerful shot that bounced off Matt Turner’s right post from outside the area.

In the second half, the Red Central American team took the lead with a goal by Jose Fajardo in the 83rd minute.

Panama will face Bolivia in the group’s final match on July 1, while the United States will conclude its campaign on the same day against Uruguay.
