Spotify, the leading music and podcast platform, has decided to expand its presence in the audiobook world after acquiring independent audiobook platform Findaway last year. As part of its strategy, Spotify has released more than 150,000 audiobooks to premium users in the UK and Australia.
This new offering aims to study subscriber reception and behavior before introducing the audiobook experience to the rest of the world. Premium users will be able to enjoy up to 15 hours of playback per month, both online and offline. If this limit is exhausted, Spotify will offer additional refills at an additional cost of $10.99, which will provide an additional 10 hours of audiobooks.
The audiobook collection includes over 70% of bestsellers, covering titles from leading publishers such as Bolinda, Dreamscape, Hachette, HarperCollins Publishers, Macmillan, Penguin Random House, Pushkin, Simon & Schuster, RB Media, and others. In addition, this offering also includes works by independent authors and publishers from around the world.
Spotify has established itself as a benchmark in the world of audio, and its foray into the audiobook space seeks to offer a more accessible and diverse reading experience to its users. The company is evaluating the success of this initiative to eventually expand globally.
