Spain and the United Kingdom meet again this Thursday to push forward the agreement on Gibraltar. Foreign Ministers of Spain and the United Kingdom, José Manuel Albarez and David Cameron They will meet in Brussels with the Executive Vice President of the European Commission, Maros Šefčović, according to diplomatic sources.

This meeting will be held on Thursday, May 16, in Brussels, after the first meeting held in the same format on April 12, in which significant progress was made, but the political agreement was not finalized.

The aim of this second meeting, according to the same sources, is “to advance the main lines of an agreement that will achieve prosperity, confidence, legal security and stability for the citizens of the entire Gibraltar region.”

The situation in Gibraltar was excluded from the UK’s withdrawal agreement from the European Union, and the three parties involved are still negotiating, eight years after the Brexit referendum.

The use of the airport and customs control has been the focus of negotiation teams’ talks for several months.
