On Tuesday, 5th of this month, Deputy Prime Minister of the Economy, Cho Kyung-ho, held a video conference with the UK Finance Minister, Jeremy Hunt, to prepare for an “economic and financial dialogue” for next year.
The Vice Premier welcomed the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries, especially after President Yeon Suk-yeol’s state visit to the United Kingdom on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of bilateral relations, and said that he hopes to increase the potential for cooperation in sectors. Such as energy, supply chains and advanced technologies.
He expressed his desire to maintain the “economic and financial dialogue” between the ministries of finance of the two countries, and requested the attention and cooperation of the British Ministry of Finance to end the dialogue as soon as possible in 2024.
In response, Hunt highlighted the need to strengthen Korea-UK relations thanks to the universal values the two countries share and in the face of global economic uncertainty. He also praised Korea’s economic growth model, highlighting its leadership in the semiconductor sector, its distinguished educational system, and the effectiveness of anti-Covid-19 measures.
