The lawmakers urged the head of the Federal Commission for the Protection of Health Risks, Alejandro Svarque Pérez, to issue a health alert, where growth in the provision of aesthetic medicine services has been identified by private establishments or premises, without them having the relevant notifications or health licenses.

Precisely in aesthetics, gyms, spas and other beauty establishments, where aesthetic medicine procedures are currently being performed that must be performed by a doctor who specializes in this matter.

Last year, more than 1,500 clinics were reviewed, of which 228 were anomalies and 162 were closed by COFEPRIS, which is an increase of 3,950% compared to the four closed clinics in the previous administration.

However, nothing is done to review esthetics and beauty salons, spas, and gyms are where aesthetic medicine procedures are performed.

Jose Naro, Senator for Morena, explained that the vast majority of cases in which people are affected by malpractice take place in institutions that have nothing to do with medicine, and are practiced by people who do not even have a medical degree.

He pointed out that many of the complaints presented at the morning conference of the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, were submitted by people who do not even have a degree in medicine, so COFEPRIS must issue a health alert in order to close all these institutions that do not have a doctor specializing in aesthetic matters.
