China has begun building a group of reconnaissance telescopes, which will be used mainly to detect space debris in medium and high orbits.

The Multi-Application Reconnaissance Telescope Array, MASTA, developed by the Purple Mountain Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is under construction in Lenghu City, Qinghai, with an average altitude of 3,800 meters above sea level. The sea, benefiting from a clear sky.
