In a joint press conference with his Vietnamese counterpart, Boy Thanh Son, after the official talks, Lavrov said that Moscow and Hanoi agreed on the need to form an equal and indivisible security structure, commensurate with the reality of that region.
He stressed that both countries have similar approaches to the most pressing current problems, from interaction within the framework of the United Nations to the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Boy Thanh Son highly appreciated Russia’s contribution to promoting peace and stability in the region and supported Moscow’s intention to increase cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
He stressed that the high level of trust achieved between Hanoi and Moscow creates additional opportunities for developing a comprehensive strategic partnership, as well as for expanding and strengthening bilateral relations in all areas.
“Our friendship and eternal gratitude to Russia for the help and support that their country gave us in the past liberation struggle and that they offer to the development of Vietnam has not changed now,” he said.
The representative of the Asian nation stressed that Russia is for his country a faithful partner of strategic importance and described his people as a good and faithful friend who “will always be with Vietnam on our development path.”
