Ronnie O’Sullivan It talks exclusively about MARCA in an interview given by EurosportAnd the The series that broadcasts live and exclusively Sheffield is the 2021 World Snooker Champion. The hero no longer lives in need of victories: “If they give me a choice between snooker or other business interest tomorrow, because I couldn’t do both, I will leave that at once. I have no doubt,” he said. Ronnie in its purest form.
What challenges do you think you should achieve in this sport?
I don’t have much left to do, so I must dwell on new challenges. We are opening some academies in other countries and also we are starting a great school in Singapore. Also, I am already working with my team on writing a new TV show that we hope will appear on British TV in not long time. Winning trophies does not matter to me as it was before. I need to find the things I’m really passionate about and that excite me because time is running for everyone.
Of all the times you have been a world champ, what is most special and important to you?
It’s hard to answer because the right moment to win the championship only takes a few seconds while you feel almost all the adrenaline in the process of winning a competition like the World Championship. I like to compete against competitors and I do not enjoy winning as much. I prefer the duration of each match more. Along these lines, I’ll stick to the next tournament that I’m competing in because that’s what I love the most. Of course, I’m going to go to the World Cup this year – laughing.
If you had to choose another sport, what would it be?
I’d like to race cars – anything like Formula 1 or Touring Car racing – but I’d 100% choose to compete in the world of motorsport. I think I’d be very good at that. I’m a little addicted to adrenaline. If my dad had rode in a cart, that would have been my passion.
What are your expectations for this year’s world championship?
I’d like to do well in my first game and continue from there. I don’t look any further. I focus on good competition every time you touch me and avoid predicting what might happen. A new World Cup and I’m facing it with great enthusiasm and I would say it as if it was the first time.
Are there other players we should watch out for in this year’s edition?
It is difficult to distinguish a person. It’s hard for anyone to break through the top five or six because it’s so unusual. Ding Junhui might be having a good tournament this year, but that might depend on some players not playing. There are five or six who are able to win the tournament, no matter who they are playing against. Nevertheless, I believe that the fight will be between the usual combatants, and I hope that I will continue to belong to that group.
When do you think you are performing well in the World Championships?
I always say that reaching the quarter-finals in the World Cup is a great achievement. If you win two matches, you have experience reaching the second week of the tournament and with it the necessary photography. It sounds crazy, but I prefer losing in the quarter-finals over the final, to be honest; Once you get to that point, you reach the semi-finals and the final, it’s all about winning. For me, if I get to the quarter-finals, it’s not the end of the world, and there was no guarantee that I would win and wasn’t even close to the finish line anyway. It’s much easier to beat a loss in the quarter-finals than it was in the semi-finals or finals.
Do you think snooker will be able to compete with more other media sports?
Difficult. And a lot more. If you look at other sports, such as Formula 1, tennis or golf, everything is about the image and they are fully aware of how it is presented, but in snooker it is not the case. In Formula 1, tennis and golf are superstars, while everyday life differs in snooker. But it wouldn’t hurt to be a global legend with fans all over the world.
Who are the other athletes you know?
It is difficult to answer this. But of all the superstars, Tiger Woods in the human sense is the best in terms of his profession. “I don’t know, I think my mother has them,” Tiger said in an interview when asked if he knew where all the awards are. This made me realize just how insignificant the Tiger’s other tournaments are. It’s not that they weren’t important, but sometimes tournaments help you figure out where your game is. Your entire career, subconsciously, is about getting to the top at certain times.
In my case, I’ve always said that I like some tournaments more than others. I just make sure I’m ready. That’s why I don’t feel much anxious about wins or defeats, because it’s actually like training to see your playing level. If I win a great tournament, like the World Championship or one of the great events in China, I will be happy but my life is never ending.
